This is Texas-T Cajole's Carnation owned and shown at the June 1, 2013 Saanen Specialty in Weatherford by Pat Thornton. Carnation won Grand Champion Junior Saanen at the Specialty. Pat and I go way back over thirty years when Pat raised and showed LaManchas along with the Saanens. Pat has continued to breed Saanens but has not shown outside of the State Fair for a number of years. I was sure excited that she was able to bring her beautiful animals and show at the 2013 Saanen Specialty. My yearling buck is Texas T Style Catalyst. A Companeros Lots of Style son. Pat has had better success at AI than I have lately and we traded bucks this year. I have two Catalyst daughters and one more doe to kid that I bred to Catalyst. I am hoping Pat will be able to get back into the show ring a few more times in the coming year and look for both of us at the State Fair in Dallas this fall. It was Charlie Currer's day to shine at the 2013 Brenham Show May 25. His
doe Home Port Farm M Karly won Grand Champion Senior Doe in Ring 1 and Briar Bay W Fannie Mae won Grand Champion Senior doe in Ring 2. If I am not mistaken these wins finish both of those does. Two new permanent champions for Charlie. This little guy showed a little Saanen buck in four rings at the Big Buck Bonanza in Weatherford on April 27, 2013, and then showed him in the lineup for Grand and Reserve. He did a super job and since I had the yearling buck, we spent some quality time together in the show ring. He is following in his Mom's footprints and is going to be a great showman. Although he is already better than I am. Creampuff and Cupcake are twins and are known as the pastry girls at White Oak Bend. They are the 2012 daughters of SGCH Briar-Bay W Pug Muffin. One of them dropped a pellet of food and they must find it and devour it. They are bred and are due to kid in March so we have a long time before the big event. In the meantime they continue to pick on the LaMancha juniors and run from the Alpine yearlings. Smart girls. Gay Bottoms, left, is the Election Chairman for the National Saanen Breeders Association. LaNell Lindell, center, and Charlie Currer, right, met Gay in Calvert, TX today at the local Dairy Queen to canvas the election ballots for the NSBA. Calvert was pretty much in the middle for all three committee members. About a 90 minute drive for each of them to help count ballots. When you have all of your committee members over 60, they need all the help they can get to read the ballots correctly. Thank goodness for handheld magnifying glasses. A record number of ballots were received by Gay and opened at the Dairy Queen and added to the stack of ballots that were sent to Gay by email. Election results are pending due to a tie in one district and we have to wait on the the tie breaking data which is," which member has been a member of the NSBA the longest." Gay's husband drove her to the meeting since her right foot is in a cast. She slipped and fell, breaking her ankle and had to have surgery. Gay is a dedicated Saanen breeder to still get to her committee meeting to fullfill her Election Chairman duties. After counting and tallying the ballots, the group had a Dairy Queen lunch. I personally enjoyed lunch and topped it off with a Candy Cane Chill Blizzard. Yum if you haven't tried one of those. Luckily it was an Up Day for me so I could eat whatever I wanted. Tomorrow is another story though. |
